Lev McClain for Ward 4

I was born and raised on the North Shore and have lived in Salem for 16 years. Over time I’ve been able to see the city grow and change from many points of view: as a worker in the downtown tourism industry, as a Salem school parent, and as a renter and then homeowner. I believe we are a community with a rich history on its way to a bright future, but we must navigate several challenges to get there, and too often our representatives seem focused on proving each other wrong instead of residents’ quality of life. We need leadership willing to listen, compromise, and unite to craft practical solutions for the issues facing our community. As Ward 4 councilor I will make sure all neighborhood voices are heard and prioritize finding common ground to achieve our shared goals: affordable homes, safe and well-maintained roads, strong city services, and ample resilient green spaces.

Key Goals as Ward 4 Councilor

Communication

Every Ward 4 resident should know who their city councilor is and how to reach them. I will be an advocate when you need help, and I will make sure you know what is under discussion at City Council and get your concerns on the table before we vote.

Community Building

I will lead an effort to make better use of our parks and neighborhoods for community events that highlight our history and bring neighbors out of their homes to meet each other. It’s important that we build relationships and cultivate a sense of belonging for residents old and new.

Workforce Development

I will push for a much greater focus on connecting Salem residents to training and job opportunities beyond the tourism sector. Our city is growing increasingly expensive and we must work to make sure our most vulnerable neighbors are not pushed out. Ward 4 has historically been home to many public servants and tradespeople, and we should promote partnerships in those arenas along with anchors like Salem Hospital and Salem State University.
